Update 4: EB proceeds to report to police
Today, the Executive Board decided to report an incident of group defamation to the police. The incident occurred on 27 May during a protest march on campus by the Wageningen Encampment group. The report specifically refers to the chant “Zionist are all the same, Nazis by a different name”.
The Executive Board fully agrees with all those who claim that the humanitarian situation in Gaza is devastating and that immediate action to address thisis required.
The chant that was used during yesterday's protest, however, is unacceptable. Offending of groups in a manner as this is unacceptable within our community and does not help a substansive debate or discussion.
WUR should be a place where all opinions can be expressed, however diverse they may be. But this may never lead to an unsafe environment for any part of our community.
Since 15 May, activists have set up an encampment to protest and express their right to demonstrate. The encampment is tolerated by the Executive Board which has offered ample space for the protestors to make their voices heard. From the beginning, we have always stressed the ground rules for this protest.
