Textbook Animal Breeding and Genetics available in 5 languages
Animal Breeding and Genetics textbook is written for everyone who is interested in animal breeding and sustainable breeding programs and is available at WUR library. Recent translations to three additional languages make the textbook even more broadly available.
In 2014 Groen Kennisnet published the digital textbook Animal Breeding and Genetics for BSc students. The textbook was written by Liesbeth van der Waaij of the chair group Animal Breeding and Genomics and by Kor Oldenbroek of the Centre for Genetic Resources The Netherlands (CGN). The textbook became available in the Dutch and English language.
The circle of activities in a breeding program determines the order and the content of the 14 chapters. This textbook seems to be of value around the world. The English version is translated into the Arabic language (book), the Spanish, French and Rumanian Languages (digital). In the spring of 2021 a Chinese translation will become available. The translations are mostly carried out by former guest workers of the chair group Animal Breeding and Genomics. In 2020 (Covid-19 pandemic) the UK-version on the site of Groen Kennisnet counted 59,017 digital users and the Dutch version 32,392 users.
