SOILPROM: Kick Off Meeting October 22-24, 2024

An SLM team visited Carthagena, Spain, to participate in the Kick Off Meeting for the SOILPROM project (2024-2028), held October 22-24, 2024.

The meeting included a field day, during which the project partners visited former mining sites in La Unión-Cartagena district, and learnt about how the transport of metal residue from the mines-- through runoff, wind, and through the soil-- has led to considerable environmental pollution over a large part of the district. Data collected through the project will help improve the understanding of how these processes unfold, and also help upgrade several models of these processes (including SWAP, HYDRUS, MicroHH, OpenLISEM).
