While engineers of the future need specialized knowledge, they also need a variety of skills like writing, collaboration, research skills, reflection or entrepreneurial skills. Since 2024, WUR bachelor programmes are expected to implement skills learning trajectories.

To do this in an evidence informed way, 4TU_CEE co-funded a systematic review study conducted by ELS colleagues (Goriot, Gulikers & Biemans, 2024) and a university wide project that explored the opportunities within WUR the design and implement Skills Learning Trajectories.

The systematic review on “What we know from research on the design and implementation of skills learning trajectories”, showed that actually, we don’t know a lot… Though ofcourse, there are some important lessons to learn and to take into account when designing aligned and coherent skills learning trajectories.

The university wide project, in which all programmes are consulted and made footprints of their current and aspired programmes, resulted in an advisorory report with practical tools and visuals that support all programmes to make their own design decisions in how and where to instruct, practice and assess skills in their bachelor programmes.
