What is climate engineering? And does it have a place in the fight against climate change? Pakhuis de Zwijger (PDZ), a contemporary public discussion house in Amsterdam, invited scientists with varying perspectives on the topic to share their point of view. Notably, Prof.dr. Aarti Gupta of the Environmental Policy group at Wageningen University & Research participated as a speaker and advocated for an international non-use agreement on solar geoengineering. This event, "Planeetkoelers", took place in the Grote Zaal of PDZ on January 10th, 2024.

As the climate crisis urgently calls us to action, the question is, what kind of action will we choose to take? Whether we are citizens, scientists, or policy makers it is important for us to discuss and ask critical questions in light of the various technological "climate solutions'' proposed. Who gets to decide what technologies are utilized and by whom? What good is a technological "fix" if it doesn't get to the root of the problem?

At the PDZ event, "Planeetkoelers", VPRO Tegenlicht invited four speakers with differing perspectives to shed light on how they view climate engineering as promise or peril.
