English Skills Lab: Academic Grammar & Vocabulary (online)

Target group

English Skills Lab is aimed at bachelor’s and master’s students who want to further develop their academic grammar and vocabulary.

B2-C1 and up (CEFR)

Course content

In this course you will learn to correctly apply the rules of English grammar and vocabulary. You will work on:

• grammar: comparisons, word order, the past, present, and future tense of verbs, passive voice, modal verbs, conditional clauses, and indirect speech;
• vocabulary: academic verbs, adjectives, nouns, adverbs, cause and effect, argumentation, prepositions, conjunctions, milder expressions/politeness, and expansion of academic vocabulary.

It is based on your practice: what questions do you encounter often? You will have ample opportunity to ask questions and practice during the class.

Admission requirements

To take this course you need an Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) score between 50 - 90. You can apply for the online OOPT by emailing us at into@wur.nl.

Location

You follow the course entirely online using the Virtual Classroom in Brightspace.

Number of meetings

8 online classes of 1 hour and 45 minutes per week.

Self-study

2 to 3 hours per week.

Course materials

Participants will have access to Brightspace, where all the required materials will be available.

Certification

You will receive a certificate from Wageningen in’to Languages if you attend at least 80% of the lessons.
