Grading Table
Within the European Union a common system for grade conversion was agreed upon, namely by using the ECTS grading table.
Grading tables facilitate interpreting, comparing and translating grades between institutions.
By showing the distribution of the passing grades, the grading table gives insight in what a given grade actually means. In other words, a grading table shows how many students receive any of the possible passing grades. This gives insight in the grading culture. For example: at Wageningen University, like elsewhere in the Netherlands, the highest grades are rarely given. The European Commission demonstrates in a 3-minute video* how to convert grades from one university into grades of another university using their grading tables.
The grading table is based on a reference group. Most study programs of Wageningen University have their own grading table, which is included in the Diploma Supplement. For exchange students the general Wageningen University grading table is used. Calculation for this table is based on all passing grades of all WU students in the previous academic year.
