BISC-E - Accelerate transition to bio-based economy!

The current fossil-based economic system has resulted in severe challenges such as climate change, deforestation, biodiversity loss, resource scarcity, pollution, and waste accumulation. The biobased economy offers a sustainable alternative by relying on renewable biological resources, promoting circular principles, and reducing dependence on finite fossil fuels.

By embracing the biobased economy, we can work towards staying within the planet's ecological limits while driving innovation, creating new jobs, and fostering sustainable development across various sectors. Do you want to be part of this Change?

What is the BISC-E?

The Bio-based Innovation Student Challenge Europe (BISC-E) is a Europe-wide student competition for Bachelor and Master students. It seeks to raise awareness and involve students from all disciplines in the transition towards a bio-based economy by developing innovative solutions to help overcome the hurdles standing on the path to a climate-neutral Europe.

The Challenge

Develop an innovative bio-based product or process that could become part of the circular bio-based economy. Your team does not need to produce a prototype, but it should prove that your solution can work. The experts from industry and academia will judge your business idea on technological excellence, sustainability, environmental performance, and economic feasibility. Are you up for the Challenge?

How does it work?

BISC-E consists of two rounds, the national competition and the European competition. The participants will first compete at the national level, then the national student team winners will enter the European final of BISC-E in the Summer.

Who can participate?

The Dutch competition is open for all Bachelor and Master students of Dutch universites or universities of applied sciences. A team should consist of a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 6 students. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the competition, it is recommended to include diverse disciplines in your team. Team members can come from different institutions.
