Vulnerability assessment and adaptation planning
The Carpathian mountain region is one of the crucial natural refuges on the European continent. It provides a multitude of ecosystem services such as water, food, tourism opportunities and energy to its inhabitants and downstream areas.
Together with partners, Wageningen University & Research assessed the vulnerability of the region to climate change. This showed the importance of regional cooperation and of land-use systems like the traditional pasture management for water retention. The analyses formed the basis for a successful transnational action plan to improve the adaptive capacity in the region.
