NIOO has the ambition to treat its wastewater in a sustainable manner. Rainwater, washing wastewater and toilet wastewater are separated at the source here. A fermenter converts the organic matter in toilet wastewater into biogas, after which microalgae will retain the valuable minerals such as phosphorus, nitrogen and potassium and close the nutrient cycle.
