Maud, MSc Nutrition & Health - Intern Sea Ranger Service - November 2020
Hi all! I am Maud, former resident of Wageningen and ex master student Nutrition & Health. Since November I have been working at the Sea Ranger Service. The Sea Ranger Service is on a mission to conserve the world’s oceans. As a Sea Ranger I am improving marine protection through offshore inspection and conservation work. In order to reduce emission, this work is done on a sailing vessel.
From studying Nutrition & Health to working on a sailing vessel. Who would have thought that?! Graduating during a pandemic wasn’t the best timing. However, it gave me a break, simply some extra time to think about my next steps. This time could not have been used better than arranging a session with Student Career Services at Wageningen. Here, Career Coach Elizabeth taught me to look broader, to not only search on job titles including the words ‘research’, ‘nutrition’ and ‘health’. Together we had a look at my qualities and in what kind of organization these qualities would fit best. This not only made me feel more confident about my own abilities, it also changed my perspective of searching for jobs.
My advice for recently graduated: Opportunities don’t happen, you create them!
