Integrated approaches to transition
Stresses from salinity, droughts, floods and heat require manifold adaptations within the local farming and food systems. This is very often a multi-stakeholder effort as we have already explored in other sub-sections of this website.
Changes in a system offer many opportunities but also threats. To secure that the food stays nutritious and safe, the generic food safety framework helps to analyse upfront and to monitor hazards and vulnerabilities as well as opportunities. Changes in farming systems affect farm production, the income of people, and the well-being of livestock, among others. Opportunities for livestock production will change with climate change. A better understanding of what feed resources are available to what extent and when in the year will help farmers, (unconventional) input providers, government staff and consumers to make better decisions.
