Dr. Daan van der Heide 1990 - 2004
In 1990, right after the retirement of Prof. van Adrichem, he was succeeded by Dr. Daan van der Heide, who was also appointed as professor in General Human and Animal Physiology in 1990.
Prof. Daan van der Heide was a trained physician, focusing on the metabolic role of thyroid hormone. He supervised the renovation of the Physiology building that was completed in 1995. A statue was placed in front of the building representing Acteon turned into a deer, because he could not keep his eyes from the naked the goddess Diana. Prof. Daan van der Heide retired in 2004.
With the movement of human and Animal Physiology to the Zodiac building on the Wageningen University Campus, the statue was also transferred from the Physiology laboratory to the campus. However, it was then first demolished and subsequently stolen because of the value of its metals. Restoration is in progress.
