A ‘sharp’ diet for European citizens
Our current diet contributes to chronic diseases and is not ecologically sustainable. Wageningen University & Research develops ‘SHARP’ diets: Sustainable and Healthy, but also Affordable, Reliable and Preferred by consumers. For example, SHARP-diets contain less meat, reduce chronic diseases and still provide sufficient iron and proteins. Data from 4 EU-countries are used to evaluate consumer preferences. The model can incorporate innovations in food production and food composition. This can help policymakers and food industries to evaluate synergies and trade-offs on health and sustainability.
