WIAS Course The Final Touch:Writing the General Introduction and Discussion (0.6 ECTS)
Course description
Aim of the course:
The General Introduction and General Discussion are single-author chapters in the thesis which plays an important role in the final assessment of the thesis. In this course, a one-day training is offered for the writing of the General Introduction and the General Discussion of a PhD thesis. Apart from providing general guidelines, we will discuss strong and weak points of examples of a General Introduction and a General Discussion. The examples have to be studied before the course takes place.

Draft Programme:
Important! Several weeks in advance, three examples of a General Introduction and three examples of a General Discussion will be sent to you by email. You are expected have to be studied these before the start of the course.
9.00: Lecture:
- Effective writing.
- What is a good title of your thesis?
- How to write a General Introduction.
10.30: Discussion groups (about 3 persons/group): Analysis of the weak and the strong aspects of three General Introductions.
12.00: Lunch
13.00: Presentation of the analyses of the Introductions and reflection by the teachers.
13.45: Lecture: How to write a General Discussion.
14.15: Discussion groups (about 3 persons/group): Analysis of the weak and strong aspects of three General Discussions.
16.00: Presentation of the analyses of the Discussions and reflection by the teachers.
16.45: Evaluation of the course (feedback by the participants).
