Towards a transformative learning ecology for fostering social-ecological stewardship among smallholder farmers and children in Uganda
Summary
This PhD research focuses on supporting rural
communities to learn how to care for their natural resources in ways that
benefit their lives today and ensure that the resources also benefit future
generations. The study explores how smallholder farmers and school children in
a watershed area in Eastern Uganda can develop the capacities needed for environmental care. By identifying a transformative learning approach, the research highlights practical ways to support these communities to develop the needed capacities for environmental care. It also emphasizes the role of education in fostering long-term change by equipping both children and adults with the right
mindset and abilities to preserve their environment. The findings provide
valuable insights into how learning processes can drive sustainable practices
in rural areas.
