Summary

Using wheat and faba bean as a case study, this project investigates the root system structure and proliferative responses of cereal and legume crops when grown together as crop mixture. It focuses on nutrient availability, the light (R/FR) environment in the canopy, and emergence time differences. By examining how these factors influence root morphology and architecture, particularly horizontal and vertical distribution, the study aims to understand their impact on early-stage intercrop performance. The research will provide insights into root interactions and competition, potentially guiding better management practices for intercrops to enhance resource use efficiency and crop yields.
