Course
Masterclass Writing an Introduction - 0.5 ECTS
Content:
Are you struggling with writing your introduction of a paper? Or are you so engaged with analysing your data that it becomes complicated to explain the essence of your work to a reader? This hands-on master class is a collective endeavour to use the so-called introduction formula for drafting a text that hooks the reader, positions your paper in relation to its antecedent, presents the added value of your work, briefly outlines what research you did, and explains the roadmap to the paper. The aim is to write your introduction step-by-step and to have it ready (in draft) after two days.
Learning outcomes:
After successful completion participants are expected to be able to: use the introduction formula to write a coherent and attractive introduction to a paper or chapter.
Activities:
Draft paragraphs for the distinct elements of an introduction, review draft texts of peers, revise own texts, and finalise the introduction.
Target group and min/max number of participants:
PhD candidates in the writing phase. Minimum of 8 and maximum of 20.
