eSDG Concert: music meets science
On Saturday 23 November 2024, the jubilee Symphony Orchestra Sonante and the Wageningen Global Sustainability Programme are joining forces for a unique event: the eSDG Concert. This concert connects scientific presentations with classical music, focusing on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, and introduces a new, symbolic 18th goal: Make Music.
SDGs: Steps to a Sustainable Future
The Sustainable Development Goals, adopted by the United Nations in 2015, represent a global agenda for a more sustainable future. These 17 goals - ranging from fighting poverty to promoting equality - influence the policies and research of many organisations. Within Wageningen University, too, the SDGs play a crucial role in the strategic plan and in initiatives such as the Wageningen Global Sustainability Programme. This research programme focuses on promoting sustainability through scientific research, education and public activities.
40 years of Sonante
The Symphony Orchestra Sonante will celebrate its 40th anniversary in 2024. This orchestra, consisting of about 40 musicians from the Gelderse Vallei region, including alumni and employees of the university, is committed to music education and regularly organises children's concerts. The eSDG Concert fits perfectly within Sonante's vision of combining music with other forms of art as well as science.
What to expect at the eSDG Concert
The eSDG Concert offers an evening of inspiring scientific presentations interspersed with beautiful classical music. Four scientists will give short presentations on topics touching on the SDGs. Between the presentations, the orchestra will play carefully selected pieces of music that tie in with the themes of the lectures.
After the concert, the audience can ask questions to the speakers. Before the concert, from 19:30, the hall will be open and visitors can enjoy coffee and get informed about various projects from the Wageningen Global Sustainability Programme.
Come and be inspired by an evening of music, science and sustainability.
