Alumni meeting
4TU DEAN Alumni Event - Geneva, Switzerland - 28 September 2023
As an alumnus/alumna of Wageningen University & Research (WUR), we invite you to an alumni event in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday 28 September 2023. The event is organised together with the other technical universities. We hope to see you there!
Get a glimpse into the inner workings of international organizations and their impact on our world from the perspective of 4TU alumni, who will talk about their jobs at CERN, ICAN and the WEF during a special gathering in Geneva on Thursday 28 September.
The DEAN* event will be hosted at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research with both two great keynote speakers as well as panelists! Learn from Maria Alonso (alumna TU Delft) about her work at the World Economic Forum (WEF) as well as the lastest in the area of connected and autonomous mobility. Hear from Lucero Oyarzun (alumna WUR) about what it means to be the digital campaign coordinator at ICAN - The International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, an organization that won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017. The programme also includes updates from both the Embassy as well as your 'TU's', and concludes with a networking 'borrel'.
Afterwards explore what it's like to work for CERN during a panel discussion with a group of alumni staffmembers. The programme also includes a brief outline by Anita Conijn, National Coordinator International Functions at the Dutch Foreign Ministry about career opportunities for alumni expats within international organizations, updates from both the Embassy as well as our TUs, and ends with a networking 'borrel'. Prior registration is necessary to attend so please sign up using the link below.
Participants are also offered the chance to join an earlier pre-event guided tour of CERN’s first accelerator, the Synchrocyclotron (SC), which came into operation in 1957. This walking activity starts at 17:00 and lasts approximately 45 minutes with limited capacity.

About the speakers
Maria Alonso
Maria Alonso is Autonomous Systems Lead at the World Economic Forum. In her job, she focuses on advancing the future of connected and autonomous mobility. Prior to joining the Forum, Maria worked for the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, where she brought research and policymaking closer together and engaged with some of its key international stakeholders. She has also worked for the World Bank, for an international construction company and for a transport consultancy boutique. Maria obtained her PhD in new mobility services from TU Delft in 2020. She also holds an MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology, and Masters in Civil Engineering from the Technical University of Munich and the Technical University of Madrid.
Lucero Oyarzun
Lucero Oyarzun is the Digital Campaign Coordinator at ICAN. After her studies in Forest and Nature Conservation at Wageningen University, she discovered her real passion lies in discovering and applying the most effective ways to move people into action for the planet and for each other. Lucero worked with international organisations like Greenpeace and Child Helpline International before coming to ICAN in April of 2018 to help this people-powered campaign to make even better use of our interconnected world and leverage its Nobel Peace Prize and huge network to address an even larger task: eliminating nuclear weapons for good. At ICAN, she has become a digital jack-of-all-trades, ranging from design and content creation, website development, email marketing, IT and cybersecurity and more.
