Microbial Systems and Synthetic Biology
The microbial systems and synthetic biology group uses knowledge-based bioengineering to re-design and modify microbes for biotechnological application.
Within this theme we develop novel technologies of DNA modification and genome engineering to build synthetic systems such as cells able to produce industrially relevant compounds. Those are applied to advance the development of more efficient and safer microbial cell factories, which are essential for a safe transition to a circular bio-based economy.
Methods and approaches
We use and develop methods such as:
- CRISPR interference
- biosensors
- high-throughput genome engineering tools
- knowledge guided library design and construction
