English language proficiency MSc

All of our master’s programmes are taught in English. If you are applying for one of our Master degree programmes you will have to demonstrate sufficient English language proficiency. You are required to upload a sufficient English language test unless you qualify for one of the exemptions as specified below. You will need to provide us with a proof of English language proficiency for your application to be considered.

Accepted English Language test and minimum scores

IELTS Academic Test (IELTS online test and IELTS One Skill Retake results are not accepted) Overall grade 6.5, with a minimum sub-score of 6.0 for speaking
TOEFL iBT (TOEFL Home Edition and MyBest scores are not accepted) internet-based 92, with a minimum sub-score of 23 for speaking
Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE) score between 176-210 or Grade C
Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) score between 180-230 or Grade C

We advise you to book a test on time as test dates can become full quickly and results can take time to become available. The IELTS and TOEFL test results expire after 24 months. Therefore, these tests should be taken no longer than 24 months prior to the day of your application. Information and registration for these different tests can be found on the website of TOEFL, IELTS and Cambridge.

Exemptions

Bachelor's/master's at a Dutch University (WO)

Applicants who have completed their bachelor's/master's at a Dutch University (WO) are exempted from submitting an English Proficiency test.

Bachelor's at a Dutch University of Applied Science (HBO) taught in English

Applicants who have completed a bachelor's programme at a Dutch university of applied sciences (HBO) conducted completely in the English language are exempted from submitting an English Proficiency test. They are required to upload a signed statement from their institution that the medium of instruction during the complete bachelor’s programme they followed was English.
A diploma supplement stating this information is also sufficient.

English taught courses obtained at Wageningen University (24 ECTS)

Students who have completed English taught courses at Wageningen University with a minimum of 24 ECTS. Please upload your transcript of records of all obtained courses at Wageningen University in the portal. Note that the ECTS need to be obtained at the moment of submitting your application. ECTS from courses in progress do not count for this exemption.

Bachelor's/master's in one of the exemption countries

Applicants who have completed their higher education entirely taught in the English language in one of the following countries:*

· Australia
· Canada
· Ireland
· New Zealand
· Singapore
· South Africa
· United Kingdom
· United states of America

* The degree is only exempted if:
- followed on campus in that specific country
- not part of a double degree programme
- not followed online

Prior Education (secondary school) in the Netherlands

. havo final mark 8 for English, vwo final mark 7 for English.
