SG - Framing Fieldwork: Between Art and Ecology

Workshop by Milah van Zuilen

Visual artist and forest ecologist in training Milah van Zuilen uses fieldwork to bridge her two disciplines. Her works consist of natural materials such as leaves, that she gathers on walks. Also central to her work is the square, a shape that characterises our human perspective on the land. During this workshop, we go on a walk and explore the urge to understand, categorise and divide landscapes.

Milah van Zuilen is a visual artist and forest ecologist in training, who bends the fields of art and environment science towards each other. In her creative practice she questions the sense of ownership that can come with scientifically and artistically looking at the land. She has co-founded JARO, a space for artist residencies in the Bohemian Forest in the Czech Republic.
