Education of the Adaptation Physiology Group

We are a multidisciplinary group working on improving and facilitating the ability of animals to adapt to challenges. These challenges can be related to e.g. a transition during their live (e.g. birth, weaning) or challenges related to their environment (e.g. type of housing, group mates, diet). Within this broad research area, thesis options are very diverse; not only in the topics, but also in the type of activities and the location of the research. We study e.g. behaviour and physiology related to health and welfare, and we also use sensor technologies and in vitro models.

Our chair group is involved in BSc education by coordination of and teaching in courses in the first 2 years of the Animal Sciences program, and by coordination of the BSc thesis in the third year. In the master Animal Sciences, the chair group is involved in the specializations B Nutrition and Metabolism and D Adaptation, Health and Welfare, and we coordinate 3 MSc courses.

BSc Thesis, MSc thesis, Internship and Research Practice

Many students join the Adaptation Physiology Group each year for their BSc or MSc thesis and, their MSc research practice or internship. Interested students first meet with the coordinator, preferably 6 months before the preferred start for an intake. During the intake they will look for a match between student interests and opportunities.

Not only the internship, but also thesis / research practice can take place at other universities or research institutes, outside Wageningen. A list of recent topics can be found below.
